The Strata style

Your photo rebuilt in stacked planes and technical drawing rules.

What the Strata style does

Our studio rebuilds the scene like an architect’s board: people become silhouettes and textured planes, and what surrounds them comes down to a few semi-transparent rectangles and fine rules. Everything comes from the photo, nothing is invented, and the bottom of the composition runs into drips.

The print uses five fixed inks, pine green, teal, olive, sage and charcoal, plus a single point of terracotta. The original colors never come back: the photo is read in values, from lightest to darkest, and each mass gets its ink. That is what makes two prints resemble each other and resemble no photograph. No text is added under the drawing.
